The Birth of Ethnic Studies: Decoloniality, Global Struggles, and Civil Rights

Featuring Dr. James Wright 

In this EQUITYx event, experience the power of historicization with Dr. James Wright, assistant professor of educational leadership at San Diego State University and author of the forthcoming book, The Birth of Ethnic Studies: Decoloniality, Global Struggles, and Civil Rights. Dr. Wright will discuss the student protests for Black studies in 1968 which led to what became known as ethnic studies today. This EQUITYx event will give you the historical context to understand the scope and import of the struggle for culturally responsive education and especially, the essential role of ethnic studies and critically-oriented curriculum.
